The idea and the name for Christ the King Lutheran Church came from the NJ Synod of the United Lutheran Church in America (which became the Lutheran Church in America in 1962). On June 1, 1960, the Synod called the Rev. Dwight A. Huseman as our mission developer. Huseman, recently ordained and unmarried, presided at our first worship service on September 18, 1960 in the basement of the Phillips School on Route 27, just north of Henderson Road. In attendance were 102 adults and 15 children. The offering that day was $89.17. Two children, Leigh Ann & Valorie Iris Bunty, were baptized. On October 2, 40 children attended the first Sunday School class.
