Baptism
is the sacrament of initiation into the Christian Church. Persons
desiring Baptism for their infants or small children may speak to the
pastor.
Such persons should begin attending Christ the King prior to their
child's
baptism (1) to see if this is a church in which they want to be
involved,
(2) to see if it is a church in which they want their child to be
raised,
(3) and so that the people of Christ the King can get to know the
parents
whom they will be assisting and the child they will be nurturing.
Prior to baptism, older children and adults receive instruction in the
Christian faith. Persons inquiring about Baptism should speak
with
the pastor.
The
Lord's Supper is provided weekly at Christ the King and everyone is
welcomed
at the Lord's table. Baptized persons who have previously begun
to
receive Communion are invited to receive the bread and wine.
Persons
who do not yet commune are invited to come to the altar for prayer and
blessing. Coming to the Lord's Table is an occasion for
forgiveness
and renewal, and an act of rededicating one's elf to god. Persons
who have not yet begun to receive Holy Communion may speak to the
pastor
about preparing to do so.
At Christ the King, baptized children usually begin receiving Holy Communion following a period of instruction. The age at which a child communes depends on the interest of the child, and the evaluation of the child's readiness by their parents and the pastor. This usually happens in the elementary years.
Persons
planning to be married should consult with the pastor at least six
months
prior to the wedding date. Couples are expected to meet with pastor for
at least six sessions of premarital counseling and wedding planning.
Weddings
may be conducted at the church or at other appropriate sites.
